Superstorm Sandy damage forces MTA to move fare hike hearing in Yonkers

A public hearing on the MTA’s proposed fare and toll hikes has been moved from the Yonkers Public Library to the Westchester County Center at 198 Central Avenue in White Plains.

The hearing is still scheduled for this Thursday, Nov. 15,  at 5 p.m.

Flooding at the Yonkers Public Library prompted the change, officials said.

The MTA announced last month that it was raising fares and tolls across its system starting in March. Metro-North riders are facing ticket price increases up to 9 percent.  The MTA is holding a series of hearings to allow the public to weigh in on the proposed changes.  The agency’s board will vote on the proposals by the end of the year.
