The Metropolitan Transportation Authority made the unpopular announcement last week that Metro-North riders will likely see their ticket prices go up between 8 and 9 percent starting in March. Fares were also raised in 2011, when they jumped about 9 percent across the board.
The Journal News/LoHud.com is looking for commuters from Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam who are willing to be interviewed for a story about how they have coped with steadily rising ticket prices. Email reporter Theresa Juva-Brown at tjuva@lohud.com with your name and a number where you can be reached.

What’s the point of even commenting no fare increases? As long as the MTA continues to pay bloated salaries and pensions to its employees (a lot of which is mandated by the state, the legislature of which has been dominated by pro union politicians for decades), these fare increases will continue in perpetuity. The solution is not a bandaid. Nothing short of a drastic overhaul will ever work.
I would remove all subsidies to the MTA. Let commuters pay their own way.
