More trains are about to arrive at a station near you. Starting Oct. 14, Metro-North will launch its first round of service improvements that includes 79 new trains each week. From my morning report on the changes:
» The Pascack Valley line will get a new 7:59 a.m. express train from Spring Valley to Hoboken/Penn Station and a new 7:13 p.m. out of Penn Station. Those trains will run Monday through Thursday. The line will also get a new 2:51 p.m. train out of Penn Station on Fridays.
» Stations on the Harlem line between Southeast and Grand Central will get trains every 30 minutes on the weekends. Between North White Plains and Grand Central, trains will run every 30 minutes during certain times on Sundays.
» Riders on the New Haven line between New Haven and Grand Central can also expect trains every 30 minutes on the weekends. During certain times on Sundays, trains will run more frequently between Stamford and Grand Central.
» To accomodate reverse commuters in the morning, new reverse peaks trains on the New Haven line are being introduced. The first will leave Grand Central at 6:26 a.m., and the second will depart at 8:07 a.m.
» Starting in mid-November to accomodate holiday shoppers, the railroad plans to beef up weekend train service even more.
