Commuters I spoke to yesterday at Grand Central had mixed reviews. In case you don’t know, Metro-North now has a quiet car on every peak hour train that is coming into and leaving Grand Central.
Based on my interviews, it seems that many commuters are confused about which car is the quiet one. That’s led to some heated arguments when someone starts talking on their phone in the quiet car and others get annoyed.
What has your experience been like? Do you think conductors do a good job of informing riders? Email me at tjuva@lohud.com and let me know!

I have seen FAMILIES in the quiet car, or parents with small children. I think the quiet car needs a sign, otherwise sometimes a conductor will announce that noise volume cannot exceed a whisper, however I have seen many times no one understands what that means.
Yep, a sign is needed-too many people will sufficate if the phone is removed from their ear for more than a few moments.
